Diabetes Prevention Project Starts September 16th, 2010
The Diabetes Prevention Project is a program begun about 20 years ago. It started as a triple-blind research project; one group of participants following the diabetes prevention program curriculum of healthy nutrition and exercise; one group receiving 500 mg Metformin twice per day; the third group receiving a placebo. The research project was stopped early because results showed the prevention program participants were far exceeding the other two groups in controlling blood sugars, returning their lipid and cholesterol panels to near-normal ranges and showing significant weight loss. Type II Diabetes is largely a preventable disease, and this program has proven over and over to prevent or at least delay the onset of this disease.
We will be meeting once per week for 16 weeks, introducing small, simple, permanent lifestyle changes enabling participants to prevent or delay the onset of T2DM, and in some cases even reverse the diagnosis of T2DM.
