Winter Adult Education Classes in Sheridan

The Sheridan Schools in conjunction with the Horizons Project is offering a wide variety of adult education classes this winter and spring.

January

Welding - Starting Mon. Jan. 4 and continuing each Mon. and Thurs. through the 28th. Agricultural Education instructor Rodney Braaten will offer Fundamentals of Welding. The class is limited to 8 and there will be a $20 fee.

Cooking - Each Tuesday night starting Jan. 12 – 16 Linda Day and Carol Cox will offer a Cooking Class focusing on low cost, nutritious meals. The class is limited to 10 members with a $10 fee.

Auto Repair - Jennifer Konopaki will be the instructor for a Basic Auto Repair class each Wednesdays Jan. 3 – March 3. There will be a $5 fee.

Back Country Survival - Be prepared for anything by taking the Back Country Survival Skills class. The class will meet on Saturday Jan. 16 from 1-5pm . in the teepee next to the stone house in Silver Star. Class is limited to 15.

Dance - Shake off cabin fever and dance! Les and Duke Gilman will provide instruction for a Jitterbug Dance Class on Tuesday evenings at 7 in the High School Gym. The class will run Jan. 19 & 26 and Feb. 2 & 9.No fee will be charged and no class size limit.

Photography - Bill Talbot will offer Basic Photo Editing on Wed. nights at 7pm at the Sheridan Public Library. Class size is limited and there will be a $30 fee.

February-

Grant Writing - The Horizons Project is hosting a special workshop, taught by Janet Cornish, which will lay out the finer points of GRANT WRITING.  This class is geared toward non-profit groups but all are welcome.  The class is going to be held on February 15, President’s Day.  We will meet in the Montana Room at the Twin Bridges School from 8:30 in the morning to about 4:30 with lunch being served on site.  Attendees will receive resource materials and workbooks. There will be a $10 fee to offset the cost of lunch and materials (scholarships will be provided for those without means).  If you would like to sign up, registration will close February 10th, please call Jack at 406.596.7893.  Here is a little about Janet:“Janet Cornish is the owner and principal of Community Development Services of Montana, a private consulting firm in Butte. She holds a B.A. Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Political Science and an M.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana. She has 30 years of experience in community planning focused in downtown redevelopment, historic preservation, capital improvements, housing, and municipal finance, particularly in the area of tax increment financing. Earlier this year, Janet prepared an urban renewal plan for the City of Great Falls for the West Bank of the Missouri River, in an area that is transitioning from heavy industrial to mixed commercial and residential uses. She is currently preparing an update to the Butte-Silver Bow Growth Policy and has contributed to the preparation of Growth Policies for Polson, Dillon, Beaverhead County and Lake County. In 2006, she worked on the Butte-Silver Bow Housing Plan, which set forth a neighborhood based approach to addressing housing needs. From 1979 until 1987, Janet served as the first director of the Butte-Silver Bow (Montana) Urban Revitalization Agency. Classes in February and later in the spring will include Basic Tax Preparation, GPS, Silversmithing, Basic Spreadsheet, Basic Presentation Software, Basic Word Processing, Digital Photography, and Ceramics.
