Next Meeting:

Sheridan Library @ 7:00PM on Tuesday May 18th

Assignment: Black and White

Topic: Digital Black and White Conversion

Assignment and Topic will remain the same for May

since the April meeting was cancelled.

*

Each meeting we present a different education topic and are given a photo assignment for next month's meeting for review and critique. A goal we have is, at the end of each meeting each person should have had a question addressed and/or learned something. As always Please bring a photograph that you have taken in the past year for possible review and critique.  (We may not get to all of the submissions.)

Hints:    Black and White

Shoot in color to have more control over your results.

In black and white photos the noise becomes more obvious so reduce

your ISO as low as possible. If you want more grain, add it in post production.

Most general tips on how to compose or frame a good shot apply as in color but the difference is you don’t have color to lead the eye into or around your shot. Train yourself to look at shapes, tones and textures in your frame as points of interest. Shadows and highlights will become a feature of your shot.

Using Lines

Different lines have different emotional appeal.

Vertical lines project strength.

Horizontal lines represent peace.

Slightly curved lines are considered sexy.

Sharply curved lines are considered forceful.

A diagonal line will always lead your eye somewhere.

Jagged lines suggest energy or conflict.

Strong lines can make an average shot great.
