Recently a group got together and asked the question, "what did you like about living the Ruby Valley?"
It could be anything but what we wanted were the best reasons. And these reasons don't have to be in any order. So here are some of their responses. We started with 8 and will be adding more.
But, first things first - They corrected the question. It should be:
Some reasons why I love the Ruby Valley!
"Every place has a reason for people wanting to settle or live their lives. Home can mean so much to different people. People are coming to live in Sheridan and the Ruby Valley in Southwest Montana for a reason. So if you are thinking about making the move you may want to consider what Sheridan has to offer. And like minded people offer likeminded values. " “We all felt there is nothing like pleasure of coming home to Sheridan after traveling no matter how great the travel experience is.”

"Outstanding views; valley floors to snowcapped peaks" |
"Clean air and water" (Did I mention fishing?) “People come here to enjoy life. Less than 6 miles from Main Street you have access to over 275 square miles of Forest Service for incredible hiking. Public Access to the Blue Ribbon fishing on the Ruby River is less than 3 miles, not including being within 30 minutes to 4 other major fishing rivers (The Madison, The Big Hole, The Beaverhead and The Jefferson Rivers). In the summer you can go water skiing and boating on the Ruby reservoir. Winter recreation includes snowmobiling and snow shoeing, cross country skiing and even ice fishing!” |
"Safe, friendly populace. Subdued, honest, living here by choice above more economically appealing options." “There is a great sense of personal and family security. We feel safe here. Schools offer a place to belong. And Folks not only know your name but your dog’s name. And quiet, away from the hustle and bustle” |
"Abundant recreational resources; Ruby River and its tributary snow-fed mountain streams with numerous mountain ranges. All with ample public access." “Wildlife is second nature to Sheridan and the Ruby Valley. Here you can find resident mule and whitetail deer, upland game, antelope, elk, and trout. And Sheridan is on a major bird migratory path” |

"Rich history; present day to Precambrian Geology"
"Prevailing agricultural heritage; somewhat affected by present day transitional influences." |
"Excellent health care amenities available to all in the Ruby Valley and surrounding areas, including Madison County owned Ruby Valley Hospital at Sheridan with its associated clinics in Sheridan and Twin Bridges and ambulance and medivac services provide a good provider network. Additionally, the Tobacco Root Mountain Care Center adjacent to the Hospital in Sheridan has been acknowledged as one of Montana's best senior care centers. As important as the rest, the well trained and dedicated Emergency Medical Treatment (EMT) and Volunteer Fire Departments in Virginia City, Alder, Sheridan and Twin Bridges provide a very important first provider service. All of these important health care services are an important reason that I am very comfortable living in the Ruby Valley." |
"Just the "right distance" from much larger communities with expanded commercial amenities; ie Dillon, Butte, Bozeman." “There is minimal snow in the valley, but plenty in the nearby mountains for winter sporting activity. Southwest Montana is Big Sky country with plenty of solar days. The town has all of the basic needs are all within a few blocks from each other.” |
