At 9:45 am on May 8th, a 4.7 earth quake whose epicenter was only miles north from town. No injuries were reported but there was many older buildings that have been effected. The Sheridan School System immediately took action and many teachers used the experience as a teaching tool. Second Grade teacher, Tammy Stewart said , "After
the shock we had a great question and answer session about earthquakes and what
we need to do to keep safe no matter where we are. One student was in the
bathroom and didn't know what to do."
Beca Hamler, Sheridan High School's Student Body
President was in the office when the shock wave hit the school. "The trophy cases were wobbling and
the building was very loud, I was very scared."

Sheridan main street had a little more destruction. The Vigilante building, High Peaks Federal Credit Union and McCormack's Flooring will be closed through Tuesday until the entire structure has been checked. Other older buildings have lost some of the bricks on their chimneys, but nothing serious to warrant eviction.
Sheridan mayor was in Butte on a shopping trip when he felt a small tremor in the Three Bears Alaska Building. "First my wife called and asked if I felt the quake,: said Dean. :Then my phone continued to ring as I drove back to Sheridan to assess the damage."
